Kevin Feige Pitched an Early Version of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ in Which Thor, Captain America and All the ‘OGs’ Died
Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast that during the “blue sky” phase of brainstorming what the story of “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame” would be, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige toyed with the idea of killing off all the original Avengers – not just Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, but also Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Chris Evans’ Captain America, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk.“Kevin did actually pitch at one point taking all the OGs off the board,” Joe Russo said. “We thought it was way too aggressive and that the audience wouldn’t be able to process it, and that in fact picking one or two characters to make sacrifices throughout the movie might give you moments throughout the film where the action could stop and you could have emotional catharsis and then continue with the narrative and then have more emotional catharsis.”Joe’s brother and co-director Anthony Russo was quick to add that this was never scripted and was merely a conceptual idea: “That was early days.
