The BRIT Awards 2024 have announced details of a partnership with No Music On A Dead Planet to further their commitment to environmental sustainability, NME can exclusively announce.The move is part of the BRITs “long-term vision” to “constantly review, innovate and adapt to deliver the awards’ sustainability goals”. As a result, the awards will be teaming up the climate action group Music Declares Emergency to launch the first public call to action for their global No Music On A Dead Planet campaign.

Watch our video interview with Beth above.Speaking to NME at this weekend’s Open’er Festival, the Savages icon turned solo star explained how her new material following on from 2020’s acclaimed ‘To Love Is To Live‘ was taking shape.“With my solo project I feel like, because of the pandemic, I haven’t really been able to show to the world what I can do,” she told NME. “I had to stay in Paris and I realised the talent I had around me, the amazing people who also wanted to work with me.

AURORA, Max Richter, and more have been announced as guests on Fay Milton’s Sounds Like A Plan podcast, where they’ll discuss how the music world is responding to the climate crisis.The podcast – hosted by the Savages drummer and activist, along with journalist Greg Cochrane – is set to return for its third season today (March 30) and is set to share 10 new episodes of conversations with music and climate change-makers.The series will explore a broad range of topics including, bringing veganism to the live music experience, visiting one of the UK’s only “carbon positive” music recording spaces, the innovative collaborations happening between climate scientists and musicians, and how music can play a role in mainstream climate communication.A post shared by Sounds Like A Plan (@soundslikeaplanpodcast)The podcast also plans to dig into the threat to indigenous people and culture in the regions most severely affected by extreme weather and the links between climate, mental health and songwriting.“It’s easy to get dragged into feeling hopeless about the world, but there are also so many positive and beautiful things coming out of the challenges we face,” Milton said.The music world is full of creative minds and when those minds get turned to environmental and social causes, all manner of wonderful things come out. Jehnny Beth has written about ongoing mental health issues in the music industry and her hopes for younger artists to resist “age-old patriarchal abuse”.The Savages frontwoman and soloist, who last week released a collaborative album with Primal Scream‘s Bobby Gillespie, posted a video of herself holding a burning stick as a symbol of shining “a light” on the state of the industry.“Today I want to shine a light on mental health issues in the music industry, because it doesn’t happen just in pop world but in the indie world too,” she began.“I know a lot of musicians who struggle to be heard and respected, even in 2021, one can still find oneself face to face with the inevitable attitude and language of the oppressor.

Primal Scream‘s Bobby Gillespie and Savages‘ Jehnny Beth have announced their first run of live shows in support of their forthcoming joint album ‘Utopian Ashes’.The two musicians will play across the UK in November including a set at the inaugural Pitchfork Festival London. They’ll also play its sister event, Pitchfork Festival Paris a few days later.The two release their first joint album ‘Utopian Ashes’ via Sony on Friday (June 2).
