Dark And Darker has announced that it will be banning players who are making “mobs of insiders”, leaving fans worried that innocent players might be caught in the crossfire.“Starting today, if you are caught grouping with another team to kill other players inside the dungeon, you will be banned,” said developer Ironmace on the game’s Discord (via PCGamesN).Sanctions will be a temporary 14-day ban for teaming up, and if identified to be doing it in a second offense, they will be permanently banned.Naturally grouping together in the game is passable, Ironmace said, and it is “not looking to penalise players that team up temporarily for unique emergent experiences”.Players themselves expressed their anxieties that this approach would eradicate the emergent moments through teaming up.“The game is intended to be [Dungeons & Dragons], half the fun is playing the role. Beyond that, the guidelines for this are so flimsy that we will 100 per cent have people getting banned even when paying the game organically,” said one.In response, Ironmace clarified that it “[reserves] the right to ban people we think are unambiguously violating the unfair teaming policy”, but that it will require a “multi-faceted approach” to taking action.“We are not against roleplaying for fun,” continued the developer.

Dark And Darker developer Ironmace has reportedly sent a letter to Valve, asking the company to return the game to Steam amid a lawsuit alleging theft.Over the last few months, MapleStory publisher Nexon has alleged that Ironmace’s multiplayer fantasy game Dark And Darker was created by former Nexon employees with stolen code and materials.While the allegations led to developer Ironmace’s offices being raided by Korean authorities, a DMCA takedown filed by Nexon also resulted in Dark And Darker being removed from Steam last month.As reported by Gamesradar, Greenberg Glusker lawyer Aaron Moss has since issued a letter to Valve asking it to let Dark And Darker return to Steam.Moss alleged that Nexon’s DMCA was “based on claims that are entirely without merit and contains knowing and material misrepresentations that Dark and Darker infringed Nexon’s copyright interests”.Moss went on to label Nexon’s actions as “nothing more than anti-competitive bully tactics designed to put a small indie game studio out of business”.“At best, Nexon has taken a handful of unprotectable elements and cobbled them together to form the illusion of a copyright infringement claim,” wrote Moss. “This case comes down to the fact that Nexon does not want any of its former employees to work at an indie studio developing a fantasy-themed extraction game.

Dark And Darker developer Ironmace has claimed that its medieval multiplayer game is currently experiencing “sophisticated” Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.In a statement posted to Dark And Darker‘s Discord server (via Reddit), an Ironmace developer going by Graysun confirmed that the game’s latest playtest has faced setbacks due to attacks on its servers.“We have been experiencing sophisticated DDoS attacks from the very start of this playtest,” wrote Graysun, who clarified that the game’s “server quality has not changed at all” from prior playtests.A DDoS attack is a criminal offense in the UK, and refers to the act of deliberately overwhelming servers or computers to prevent other users from accessing them. In the case of Dark And Darker, this has resulted in laggy servers and periods of downtime.“As of right now there is not much we can do to immediately fix the situation but we are constantly trying our best to keep them stabilised,” Graysun added.
