Netflix removes Mighty Boosh and League of Gentlemen over blackface scenes
The Mighty Boosh and The League of Gentlemen are no longer available to stream on Netflix.As of Thursday morning, both of the comedy series had been removed from the on-demand platforms, with reports claiming it was due to their use of blackface.Evening Standard has reached out to Netflix for comment.Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt’s The Mighty Boosh, which originally aired between 2004 and 2007, contained a character called The Spirit of Jazz.The character was intended to be ghost of fictional jazz musician Howlin’ Jimmy Jefferson and was played by Fielding.Elsewhere, the League of Gentlemen – which aired on the BBC from 1999-2002 - faced criticism for Papa Lazarou, a blackface character played by Reese Shearsmith.
