Media across the world has praised the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, with some even referring to it as the “greatest funeral ever.” Taking place on 19 September and broadcasted all over the globe, it’s estimated that the send off for Britain’s longest reigning monarch was seen by around 4 billion people.
If these estimates are proved correct, it will smash records as the most-watched TV event ever, overtaking a huge number of other royal events, including the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales.
This previous record for this was achieved in 1996, when 3.5 billion people tuned in to watch Muhammad Ali open the Atlanta Olympics.
The gallantry of the funeral has been praised both domestically and worldwide, with The Telegraph writing that it was “greatest diplomatic triumph in modern history.” And Carolina Beltramo, TV analyst at WatchTVAbroad.com, said: “Such is the love and admiration for Queen Elizabeth II around the world that her funeral is destined to be the biggest live TV event in history. “Generations of people across the globe won't have been alive the last time pomp and pageantry were seen on this scale. “While it's a sad occasion, they can be forgiven for being enthralled by a spectacle that echoes throughout history.
