Woman sent home with laxatives was actually suffering with bowel cancer and died from sepsis

Somerset Live reports. She underwent CT scans in August 2018 at Weston General Hospital as well as receiving treatment for a bowel abscess.

However, no investigations for potential cancer were conducted. The former nurse visited hospital a further three times due to ongoing pain, being sent home from her last visits with laxatives and medication for heartburn.

Fiona, from Mark in Somerset, was admitted to Weston General on Christmas Day 2018 after husband of 42 years, Tony, drove her to hospital.

Following a CT scan she underwent surgery to remove a blockage in her bowel and reconnect it. A later biopsy showed she had bowel cancer.Following her operation Fiona’s condition continued to deteriorate.
