Will there be a heatwave in August? Met Office long range forecast predicts 'hot spells' next month

The country reached its hottest temperature of the year last week when 32.2C was recorded at Heathrow Airport on Tuesday, July 20.

And, according to the Met Office's long-range forecast, high temperatures could be back towards the middle of August - although it's too soon to say whether the UK will be basking in another heatwave.

A heatwave is defined by the Met Office as "an extended period of hot weather relative to the expected conditions of the area at that time of year".
