Why green liquid has been flowing into the River Tame in Mossley

Residents first sparked concerns about the brightly-coloured liquid flowing into the river at the Three Counties Estate in Mossley last week.

Amy Smith, who shared images from the river on Facebook last Thursday (April 8), told the Manchester Evening News she had lived next to the river for more than 10 years and had never seen it like that before.

But following an investigation at the scene, water provider United Utilities has confirmed that the green liquid is harmless.
