A new zebra pedestrian crossing has been installed on a busy road in Trafford as part of a push to support active travel in the area.

However, a video shared widely on Twitter has shown motorists ignoring this as a pedestrian waits to cross it. The clip, shared by active travel campaigner Harry Gray, who runs Walk Rise Salford, shows him waiting at the new crossing on Chester Road, near to Bridgewater Way, while motorists drive through it.

The Highways Code states: "Drivers and riders should give way to pedestrians waiting to cross and MUST give way to pedestrians on a zebra crossing." The zebra crossing has been installed where there was previously an uncontrolled pedestrian crossing with an island.

New segregated cycle lanes have also been installed on the road.
