Elizabeth II
Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; born 21 April 1926) is Queen of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms. Elizabeth was born in London, the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, and she was educated privately at home. Her father ascended the throne on the abdication of his brother King Edward VIII in 1936, from which time she was the heir presumptive. She began to undertake public duties during the Second World War, serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service. In 1947, she married Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, a former prince of Greece and Denmark, with whom she has four children: Charles, Prince of Wales; Anne, Princess Royal; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.

West Dunbartonshire marks King Charles' Coronation with range of events

Residents enjoyed a right Royal knees up over the bank holiday weekend to celebrate the crowning of King Charles III.The bunting and flags were out at St Augustine’s Church in Dumbarton on Saturday while the coronation took place.Friends of St Augustine’s gathered for a special buffet lunch to mark the coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort.The service and pageantry were viewed on the large screen as revellers toasted the historic occasion with glasses of bubbly.There were opportunities to win Royal mementos and memories were shared of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953.A delicious cake was cut – after the sandwiches, and coronation quiche, homemade scones with jam and cream and other buffet delicacies were enjoyed.There were also celebrations at Bellsmyre Early Learning and Childcare Centre last week, where youngsters were Kings and Queens for the day and wore their own crowns.Meanwhile, Loch Lomond Shores celebrated the coronation with a range of family entertainment and activities.Throughout the weekend, Café Zest served a cream tea that visitors could enjoy before heading to the mall to get some selfies on royal thrones.There were face painters and children’s rides all weekend as well as Disney princesses making regular appearances throughout each day.On Sunday and Monday, there was an outdoor market and buskers brought live music throughout.The McAndrews sisters paid a visit with a live performance, and on Monday.

a stilt walking royal guard strolled around the site.West Dunbartonshire Council flew the Union Jack from all council buildings to mark the historic occasion.
