Mask rules have returned in shops but it seems not everyone is happy to follow the new rules. It was announced last week that people would once again be asked to wear face coverings when shopping and on public transport amid growing concerns over the new Omicron variant.

But on the day the rules came into force on Tuesday, hundreds of Trafford Centre shoppers seemed reluctant to comply. Read more: First Omicron cases detected in Greater Manchester During our evening visit there, around half of the visitors were not wearing masks.

While a certain number may well have been exempt from the rules, it's unlikely it would have been 50% of the shoppers there.
