The Weeknd has shared the first trailer for his psychological thriller Hurry Up Tomorrow. Watch the clip, in which he’s alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan, below.In the two-minute-long clip, which dropped today (February 4), the singer, real name Abel Tesfaye, plays a version of himself who’s struggling with insomnia and seems to be facing a breakdown.Tesfaye has spoken about retiring his stage name recently, and this is something hinted to in the trailer.
A voice says, “Call me by the familiar name,” as someone in the background yells “Abel.”The Lionsgate movie is set for release on May 16.
It was written by Tesfaye alongside Trey Edward Shults and Reza Fahim, with Shults also directing. Joining Tesfaye, Ortega and Keoghan in the cast are Gabby Barrett and Charli D’Amelio.The official synopsis reads: “A musician [Tesfaye] plagued by insomnia gets pulled into an odyssey with a stranger [Ortega] who begins to unravel the very core of his existence.”The Weeknd released his latest studio album, also called ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow‘, on January 31, and it’s the final part of a trilogy following 2020’s ‘After Hours‘ and 2022’s ‘Dawn FM‘.
The movie has been described as an “extension” of the LP.In a four-star review, NME wrote: “If this is a swansong for The Weeknd, it’s a fitting one.
