A vehicle has burst into flames on a busy road in Glasgow, sparking an emergency response. The blaze took hold at the junction of London Road and Carmyle Avenue in the east end of the city shortly after 4pm yesterday.

Mercy crews, including Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, sped to the site in a bid to temper the fire and rush to the aid of those caught up in the dramatic event.

Photos taken at the site, which were shared on social media, shows plumes of black smoke billowing from what appears to be a van, which is engulfed in red, hot flames. The motor seems to have been pulled into the side of the road while the inferno rages, but is parked dangerously close to others which have stopped a few yards behind, presumably so drivers could offer assistance and call 999.A stream of backed-up traffic can be seen forming on the road adjacent.

Cops have confirmed that the driver and passenger of the vehicle required treatment for minor injuries. It is understood they were not taken to hospital.A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.10pm on Friday, 30 September, police received a report of a vehicle on fire close to the junction of London Road and Carmyle Avenue in Glasgow.“Emergency services attended and the driver and passenger received treatment for slight injuries.
