Van bursts into flames on Scots street as emergency services race to scene

These dramatic pictures show the terrifying moment when a van burst into flames on a street in Edinburgh. Emergency services raced to Comiston Road in Morningside after the alarm was raised at around 3.10pm on Monday afternoon.Fire crews scrambled to the scene after the vehicle quickly became engulfed in flames, reports Edinburgh Live.

Shocked onlookers captured the inferno from the top of a bus travelling down the busy street packed with traffic.The blaze broke out near a number of schools in the area including George Watson's and South Morningside Primary, around the time when classes were finishing up for the day.Thankfully the fire brigade managed to quickly battle the flames before any more damage was caused.It is unclear at this stage what caused the fire.Ben Arthur, who was on a bus as it approached the location of the van on fire, said: "The bus was detoured via Balcarres Street."When the firefighters started work on it the whole street instantly filled with smoke and steam."The bus driver did a great job keeping everyone safe."The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed two appliances attended the incident.A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were made aware of a vehicle on fire on Comiston Road in Edinburgh shortly after 3.10pm on Monday, January 17.
