Urgent warning over danger of trampoline parks for kids after surge in A&E admissions

A recent study has warned that trampolines are responsible for half of accident and emergency admissions for children under the age of 14.

The study gathered data from a number of sources, and looked at the dangers of both home trampolines and trampoline parks. In total the study identified 1,386,843 injuries across different countries and claimed that children who go to trampoline parks are more likely to be seriously injured than those who use trampolines at home.

Of the UK kids analysed, the study claims : "Trampoline injuries explain 50 per cent of admissions to emergency departments in children under 14 years of age," Meanwhile, In the US, there were 100,000 trampolining injuries and in Australia there are around 1,500 every year.Using the data from 11 other studies, the researchers found that the majority of injuries including those that may require surgery as well as sprains and other leg injuries were more common at trampoline centres.However the study also claimed that: "Concussion was less likely to occur at trampoline centres than at home"While the study did not look to find a clear answer as to why injury was more likely at trampoline centres, the researchers suggested that it could be down to the differences in products used at home and at trampoline facilities.They concluded that there has to be more safety standards, saying: "Presently, safety guidelines are not legislated for commercial trampoline centres anywhere in the world.”They add: “Most trampoline centres only demand a user’s injury liability waiver before admission, and the current AAP [American Academy of Pediatrics] policy statement on trampolines does not include trampoline centres because of the lack of data regarding the safety of these
