Lidl shoppers have been urged to check their homes for its own-brand Simply Grated Cheddar as it is being urgently recalled.

This is because there may be small pieces of plastic which could make the product unsafe to eat. The Food Standards Agency put out the alert on 23 November.

Product details state that it is the 500g bag of Simply Grated Cheddar with a best before date of 23 December 2022. Consumers who have the affected product will be able to return it to Lidl where they will receive a full refund.

The food's risk statement reads: "This product may contain small pieces of plastic which makes it unsafe to eat." The Lidl stores which have sold the impacted product have displayed a point of sale notice, explaining to customers why the product is being recalled and telling them what to do if they have bought the product.
