'Unlikely' debt collectors threaten woman with hammer and scratch face in row over £140

debt collectors targeted a woman they thought owed them £140 and threatened her with a hammer - even though she said she had not taken it.

Jane Devitt and Jane Madine believed they were owed money from Tania Ewings, Bristol Live reported. The couple visited Ms Ewings at Broad Oak Road, Bristol, to chase the supposed debt when Devitt brandished a claw hammer and scratched her face.

The pair then stole a computer game and controller, a sound system, DVD player, jewellery and headphones from the victim's home.Bristol Crown Court also heard Devitt sent the woman an abusive message on Facebook.Devitt, 50, and Madine, 59, of Eva Turner Close in Bristol both pleaded guilty to theft, with Devitt admitting an additional charge of assault occasioning.
