The World Food Program has won the Nobel Peace Prize, organizers of the award said Friday. The honor is one of the five Nobel Prizes established by the will of Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, in 1895.
The others are prizes in chemistry, physics, medicine and literature. The World Food Program is the food-assistance branch of the United Nations and is considered the world's largest humanitarian organization addressing hunger and promoting food security. "The coronavirus pandemic has contributed to a strong upsurge in the number of victims of hunger in the world," the Nobel committee said.
