Highly respected journalist Alastair Stewart has given a heartbreaking update on his health, revealing the impact of his dementia diagnosis that now affects his day-to-day abilities.

Since going public with his condition, the iconic former ITV newsreader has been open about the struggles that came with vascular dementia, which he was diagnosed with in 2019.

He hung up his presenting hat four years later in 2023, following an illustrious 50-year stint in broadcasting, earning the title of longest-serving male newsreader.

At the age of 72, Alastair boasts a collection of notable accolades including an Order of the British Empire (OBE) awarded in 2006 for services to broadcasting, as well as multiple honorary doctorates and a host of awards from the Royal Television Society.
