Tributes are pouring in for an award-winning search and rescue dog that has sadly passed away. Thirteen-year-old springer spaniel Diesel, who works for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, has spent time rescuing people after earthquakes in New Zealand and Nepal.Diesel scooped a gong for 'Animal of the Year' for his life-saving work at a London awards ceremony back in 2019.
His Commander Gary Carroll previously said that it was a real honour" to attend the awards ceremony.Diesel was recognised for his contribution to both the SFRS and the UK International Search and Rescue team.
But tonight, a statement was posted on social media informing everyone that he was put to sleep.It read: "Unfortunately we have to announce that Diesel’s collar was removed for the last time today."He is at peace now but his memory will live on from what he has done for SFRS & UK ISAR.
Stand down Diesel boy your work is done. Sleep well."Many people have been left upset by the news, with comments being left on a Facebook associated with the pooch.One person wrote: "So sad.
