Train smashes into car at level crossing with Scots services affected

A train has smashed into a car at a level crossing in the Highlands.Emergency services were called to the scene near Inverness at 1.36pm today.

The collision occurred on the Inverness to Nairn line, however the exact location is not yet known.It is understood British Transport Police have taken the lead at the scene and are being supported by officers from Police Scotland.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the smash.All scheduled services running through the location have been cancelled while the vehicle is recovered and the line is assessed by safety officers.

ScotRail confirmed services between Inverness and Aberdeen are currently delayed, however valid train tickets are being accepted on select Stagecoach North bus services.A BTP spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a level crossing near Inverness at 1.36pm today (31 January) after reports that a car had been struck by a train."Thankfully no one has been injured.
