Hundreds of items of children's jewellery containing a chemical which can cause cancer were seized from a shop in Strangeways.
A businessman and the company he runs have now been fined thousands of pounds after the trading standards raid. It comes after council inspectors visited Vavachi Ltd, in Sherbourne Street, in January 2020 and took away items on sale for testing.
A children's jewellery set was found to contain more than 6,000 times the legal limit of Cadmium, a natural element which has been known to cause cancer. The following month Trading Standards returned to this business and seized the remaining pieces of stock, some 277 pieces of jewellery.
