A trio's attempt to get away with £380 of tools from B&Q could have led to someone being seriously hurt, after one of the thieves stabbed a "brave" off-duty police inspector with a screwdriver as he tried to stop them driving away, a judge has said.

Michelle Bison, 46, Michael Todd, 36, and Terrence Timperley, 35, were all involved in the attempted theft from the B&Q at Stanley Green Retail Park in Handforth.

Lisa Boocock, prosecuting, told a hearing at Manchester Crown Court in Minshull Street that the trio were at the Cheadle Hulme retail park on Thursday March 18 earlier this year.
