Motherwell have reportedly made Tommy Wright their top target to succeed Stevie Hammell as manager. But it's claimed the former St Johnstone boss would need "talked into" taking the job as he wants a longer-term deal than Motherwell are offering.

The Fir Park side are looking their next permanent boss after Hammell was dismissed following their Scottish Cup exit against Raith.

Youth coach Stuart Kettlewell has been charged with stopping the rot in the meantime as the board consider their options and the former Ross County boss will be hoping to use it as an audition to land the job himself.John Hughes emerged as a contender earlier on Tuesday while former Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin and Dunfermline gaffer James McPake are believed to be firmly in the running, although former Steelmen midfielder Paul Lambert ruled himself out.

Now the Scottish Sun say Wright, who established St Johnstone as a top flight side and has been out of work since leaving Kilmarnock, is the man they want. However they also say he would need to be convinced to take the job with Motherwell languishing near the bottom of the table.
