Suddenly, Sony and Marvel execs were starting to think about an Oscar campaign and framing the movie as more of a “culmination” of the 20-year franchise than as just another sequel, and, like The Lord of the Rings, the three films starring Tom Holland and Zendaya were referred to as a trilogy, bringing the whole enterprise to a satisfying conclusion.
