Three people were notoriously absent from the Queen's Christmas speech

The Queen used her first Christmas speech since to the death of Prince Philip to pay tribute to her late husband. In the speech, written by the monarch and recorded at Windsor Castle, she said there was “one familiar laugh missing” in her household and said how his “mischievous, enquiring twinkle was as bright at the end as when I first set eyes on him”.

She also spoke fondly of her eldest son, the Prince of Wales, his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, and of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
