Covid-19 rates across the borough are now among the fastest-rising in the UK, and public health bodies across the rest of Greater Manchester are understood to be monitoring the situation closely.

The area now has the fourth highest infection rate in the country, following a rise of 58 per cent in the seven days to April 29.
