Taking a leisurely stroll around a lake or reservoir is a great way to relax and clear your mind. Surrounding yourself with nature can boost your mood, especially on a sunny day.

You don’t have to travel far to find a tranquil spot in Greater Manchester though; we have more than our fair share of reservoirs on our doorstep.

It’s not quite the Lake District - we’ll admit that - but there’s plenty of stunning spots to visit closer to home. Just north of Bolton are several reservoirs nestled in the Lancashire landscape.

One of the largest of these is Wayoh, located by the village of Edgeworth. Surrounded by towering trees with rolling moorland peaking through the background, it’s overlooked by the impressive Entwistle (also known as Armsgrove) viaduct.
