Rob Zombie is celebrating the release of his brand new movie, The Munsters. In a new interview with Variety, the director opened up about his passion for the project, which wasn’t allowed to be filmed in black and white, like the original 1960s sitcom was. Rob says it was disappointing, but that also gave him the idea for the super colorful, hyper-saturated aesthetic for the flick. “Sometimes you’re dealt a certain scenario.
You can walk away from it, but that doesn’t create anything. You figure out how to deal with it,” Rob shared. “Sometimes you create something you would have never created.” While there was a limitation on the black and white allowance, he did manage to slip some black and white in with a recreation of the show’s opening credits, which shows the cast of characters walking through their manor’s doorframe one-by-one. “When they were in the trailer, the studio wanted to take those few moments and make them color because they thought if people see a black-and-white shot they’ll be confused,” he recalled. “I’m like, ‘People aren’t that f***ing stupid.’” The Munsters, which focuses in on the love story of Herman and Lily, is now available to own on digital, Blu-ray and DVD.
