Jonny Lee Miller has shared some huge career news – revealing he has qualified as a volunteer firefighter. The 50 year old actor, who recently starred in Netflix’s controversial Royal drama The Crown, announced that he has completed a five-month course at Suffolk County Fire Academy in New York.

He shared a group picture of himself among his fellow newly-qualified recruits and told his 230,000 Instagram followers he is now at the Firefighter 1 level.The Trainspotting star wrote as a caption for the image: “Today I qualified as a Firefighter 1 after a five month course at Suffolk County Fire Academy. “Huge thank you to all the instructors, but especially Chief Sicilian, who took great care of class 2, and never got mad at us (externally). “Can't wait to serve the community I love on Fire Island NY.” Jonny has previously shared images of his firefighter uniform as he documented his five-month training journey.

He shared a snap of his uniform splayed out on the floor in January with a caption that read: “'School tomorrow! #50yearoldvirgin.” The Firefighter 1 level of training involves a written exam, a physical fitness test and a medical exam and covers rescue and extraction, knot tying, fire control and other skills.

It is the first basic level of training and allows a person to work as a volunteer firefighter.The Firefighter 2 certification offers additional training in advanced rescue, fire control and other skills.
