A teen driver who killed a biker after missing a red light has walked free from court. Joesph Moffat smashed into speeding biker Christopher Gage after noticing he was in the wrong lane and making the 'rash decision' to turn in the road.

Mr Gage, a dad-of-one, was rushed to hospital following the crash, but died several days later as a result of his injuries. The 18-year-old defendant, who had an 'impeccable record', was driving a van near the junction close to Hopwood Hall College on Rochdale Road in September 2020 when he took a wrong turn.

Mr Tom Gent, defending, told Minshull Street Crown Court : "He was confused as to where he was and he made a rash decision, having not noticed a red light, he only noticed a green light".

Moffat, who had only gotten his licence 18 months before the crash, originally submitted a not guilty plea to causing death by careless driving.
