A teenager accused of the murder of a student in Bury has told a court he feared he was "done for" just moments before the stabbing took place.

Abdikarim Abdalla Ahmed, 18, tragically died after being knifed to the chest by a combat knife with 'severe' force outside the entrance to the Mill Gate shopping centre in Bury on March 11.

For the first time, the defendant, now 17, took to the stand to give evidence before a jury in court. The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told jurors his "heart drops every time I think about what happened" - however maintained that the stabbing was an act of self-defence as he suspected Ahmed could've been armed and that he was not meant to seriously injure or kill him.

On the afternoon of March 11, Mr Ahmed, known as Abdul or Abdi to friends and family, had been punched in the face near a takeaway by a young man, said to be an acquaintance of his alleged killer.
