The Avalanches have cancelled their remaining North American tour dates due to “serious illness”.The Australian duo have been on tour behind their 2020 album ‘We Will Always Love You’, and were set to wrap up with US and Canada headline shows this month.These dates have now been called off, with the band taking to social media to tell fans: “Unfortunately due to serious illness, we have had to make the heartbreaking decision to cancel our remaining US and Canadian shows to return home.“Thank you to everyone who has made this tour so joyous, and apologies to everyone who had tickets for the remaining shows. Avalanches member Gordon ‘Gordy’ McQuilten has shared a never-before-heard song from the band’s debut album ‘Since I Left You’.The track, ‘One Kiss’, is reportedly the first taste of a recently re-discovered four-track EP that McQuilten had recorded in 2000, the year ‘Since I Left You’ was released, while The Avalanches were waiting on sample clearances for their then-completed but unreleased debut album.The release was announced by a friend of McQuilten’s via a Reddit post on the official Avalanches sub-Reddit. The friend, who uses the handle Yamaha_Superstar, helped McQuilten track down the lost songs and gave fans some context on how ‘One Kiss’ found its way onto the internet.“Gordon McQuilten was one of the original Avalanchers from their inception in 1997 until late 2001, so basically the entire El Producto-SILY classic line-up era.

The Avalanches have contributed to a project that involves sending exclusive transmissions to the Moon and back as part of the UK-wide Tour de Moon festival.The immersive and free festival – which brings together talks, cinema, music and games under one cosmic theme – has toured the UK throughout May and June via sustainable moon convoy, and is due to conclude at Hackney’s Pedro Youth Club on Thursday (June 16).As part of the festival, creative director Dr. Nelly Ben Hayoun, who is also the founder of NASA’s International Space Orchestra, has collaborated with artists including The Avalanches, Massive Attack, Moses Boyd and Pussy Riot using Moonbounce: an Earth-Moon-Earth (EME) technology.“Radio waves are beamed from the Earth to the Moon, and they basically eat the surface of the entire side of the Moon facing the Earth,” Hayoun said of the technology.

Cola Boyy has released the new single, ‘Don’t Forget Your Neighborhood’, co-written and produced by Aussie duo The Avalanches.The single is the second track to be released from Cola Boyy’s forthcoming album, following on from ‘Kid Born in Space’, a collaboration with MGMT released last month. The Avalanches have today (May 3) shared a colourful remix of their famed hit ‘Frontier Psychiatrist’ by legendary producer Mario Caldato Jr.Caldato is most known for his work with The Beastie Boys, having engineered and produced a string of their albums from 1989 to 1998. Aside from that, the Brazilian-American talent has worked with everyone from Jack Johnson and John Butler Trio to Beck, Bjork and Yoko Ono.Now, he’s taken on the textured, pop culture-heavy single ‘Frontier Psychiatrist’, pulled from The Avalanches’ 2000 release ‘Since I Left You’.

The Avalanches are set to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their debut album ‘Since I Left You’ with the release of a deluxe edition this June.Released in Australia in 2000, and in the US and UK in 2001, ‘Since I Left You’ was hailed as a boundary-pushing release comprised of over 900 individual samples.The forthcoming deluxe release – out June 4 – features a plethora of additional bonus tracks, including previously unreleased and fresh remixes by the late MF DOOM, Black Dice, Leon Vynehall, Sinkane and Carl Craig to name a few.

The Avalanches have shared the music video for a new song called “Running Red Lights,” and it features Pink Siifu and Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo. On March 14, Jamie xx and the Avalanches will DJ at No Coal Zone, an Australian concert benefitting charities fighting the climate crisis. All proceeds from the event, held at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion, will support the charities ClientEarth and Immersive Climate Education. Also on the bill are a Midnight Juggernauts DJ set, Heaps Gay and Friends, Ptwiggs, DeepFaith, and a screening of Jonathan Zawada and Mark Pritchard’s “The Four Worlds.”
