Respawn Entertainment is opening a third studio to support the development of Apex Legends, weeks after parent company EA laid off over 200 of the game’s testers.Respawn’s third studio will be located in Madison, Wisconsin, and will initially support the company’s battle royale shooter Apex Legends.As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the studio will be led by Ryan Burnett, who previously worked as Epic Games‘ director of engine production and, prior to that, worked at Call Of Duty developer Raven Software for 14 years.“Wisconsin is quickly becoming a central development hub here,” Burnett told GamesIndustry.biz.

Apex Legends has announced what is in store for players in its Post Malone-themed event, after a teaser from the rapper and songwriter himself was revealed in October.Post Malone has expressed his enthusiasm for Apex Legends in the past, bestowing it the award of being his favourite battle royale game. The “biggest partnership in Apex Legends history” begins on November 7 and will last for a fortnight.The new game mode has been designed for his “love of The Games”, titled Three Strikes.

Respawn Entertainment, the studio behind Apex Legends, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Titanfall, has called out the “harassment” its developers are receiving from some players.Taking to Twitter, Respawn shared a statement that explains how “recently, we have seen increased harassment towards members of our development team.”“We welcome community input, however the line between constructive feedback and the harassment of our dev team cannot be crossed,” the post continued.“We want to remind our players that we have a zero tolerance policy for the threats and the harassment of our developers. We will take appropriate action to ensure the health and safety of our team,” Respawn added.

Apex Legends is a popular battle royal game that took the gaming world by storm back in February of 2019. The game has players pick from a certain number of different characters that they call Legends and they each have their own unique abilities.

The study, which was conducted by the Oxford Internet Institute and reported on by BBC News, examined 39,000 game players, with wellbeing measured “by asking about life satisfaction and levels of emotions such as happiness, sadness, anger and frustration.” It was also noted that the average person would have to play for “10 hours more than usual per day to notice any difference” in their wellbeing.The study included six weeks of data from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo, and used Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Apex Legends, Eve Online, Forza Horizon 4, Gran Turismo Sport, and The Crew 2 to find the results.Professor Andrew Przybylski stated that people with more free time to play video games were probably happier, but he continued to say that “how much you play doesn’t really have any bearing whatsoever on changes in wellbeing. If players were playing because they wanted to, rather than because they felt compelled to, they had to, they tended to feel better.”This contradicts the study from 2020, which sampled a much smaller pool of 3,274 gamers, and concluded that video games were good for a person’s wellbeing.

EA boss Andrew Wilson has received a hefty pay cut, reducing his annual pay from roughly £32.5million ($39.2million) down to £16.2million ($19.9million).The report comes from the publication Axios, which spotted the company filing detailing the pay reduction. Despite the cut, Axios states the pay is “still within the stratosphere of executives of multibillion-dollar corporations.”This comes on the heels of reports last year that EA would be making substantial changes to executive pay due to negative feedback from shareholders.

Respawn Entertainment has announced that PS5 and Xbox Series X|S updates have come to Apex Legends, with further improvements planned.Confirmed to be arriving today (March 29), the next-gen update brings with it 4K and HDR output, 60Hz gameplay, higher resolution shadows and longer draw distances.Respawn has also said that more will be coming to these versions of Apex Legends in future updates, such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers on PS5, visual and audio improvements and full 120Hz gameplay.For players on Xbox consoles Apex Legends will use Smart Delivery to automatically add these improvements to the game, whilst PS5 players will need to follow a few steps to get the update on their system.On PS5, first navigate to the game hub for Apex Legends, then press “options” next to “play game” (which is in the “…” menu), press “select version” and choose the one labelled PS5. Apex Legends developer, Respawn Entertainment, has released a moving video to raise awareness of mental health issues and remind players to talk to their friends and loved ones.In the five-minute video posted on Twitter, the Respawn Entertainment team talks openly about their own mental health battles as well as the struggles that their loved ones have faced. Talking candidly, Chin Xiang Chong, lead game designer of Apex Legends explained how he had “certainly thought of suicide myself” in the past, and Fred Gill, head of technology discussed how his daughter has also struggled with mental health problems.For too long, suicide has been a misunderstood consequence of prolonged mental illness and despair.

Respawn Entertainment tap-strafing will be removed from Apex Legends in patch 10.1.Respawn made the announcement via its Twitter account, saying the reasons are that “it’s inaccessible, lacks readability/counterplay, and is exacerbated by movement abilities”. Electronic Arts (EA) and Respawn Entertainment have confirmed that Apex Legends Mobile is in development, and should be releasing soon.Game director Chad Grenier shared the news via a blogpost on the Apex Legends site on Monday, April 19.
