manchestereveningnews.co.ukdirect to your inboxA suspicious item found at a property in Ashton has been destroyed by bomb disposal officers.Residents were evacuated from their homes on Connery Crescent last night, after an item was found in a garden on the street.Police were called to the neighbourhood on Sunday afternoon (28 March) and were later joined by bomb disposal officers.A large cordon was put in place as officers carried out their investigations.The item has since been moved by a bomb disposal unit to the North Wales area, where it was destroyed, GMP said.A small number of people who live on Connery Crescent were evacuated as a precaution.They were allowed back into their properties at around 9.45pm on Sunday night.
