The Super Bowl, traditionally one of the worst times of the year at the box office, could potentially see the best overall result since Covid for a No.
1 movie and the overall marketplace this week with Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s Dog Man hanging in for a high teens to possible $20 million second weekend.
At that level, that would mark the best No. 1 take for a movie playing over Super Bowl since 2021. The previous high belongs to the 2022 opening of Death on the Nile with $12.8M.
On the high end, that’s a 44% ease for Dog Man, which would be higher than the previous Dav Pilkey big-screen take, 2017’s Captain Underpants, which declined 49% in weekend 2 with a $12.1M take.
