The German giants, who lead the Bundesliga by a point, dismissed Julian Nagelsmann before quickly announcing the appointment of Thomas Tuchel, who subjected Cancelo and City to defeat in the 2021 Champions League final while manager of Chelsea.
Cancelo will take on his parent club in the competition in next month’s quarter-finals with European competition loan rules allowing him to face City.
The Bayern squad will be looking for a new-manager-bounce as they travel to the Etihad before the return leg a week later.
