Powerful wind gusts and possible tornadoes pose a “marginal risk” in southeastern states and the Midwest, the National Weather Service said Wednesday, and thunderstorms were expected to buffet parts of Louisiana.
The storm activity comes amid a muted holiday season, with fewer than usual Americans on the road ahead of Thanksgiving due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Still, millions will venture out to visit family and friends, according to estimates. Some of the cities that could see foul weather include Indianapolis, New Orleans, Cincinnati and Louisville.
The NWS also issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Jefferson Parish in Lousiana late Wednesday afternoon, warning of winds of more than 60 mph.
