The BBC has revealed that it will not be replacing Amy Dowden on this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing following the professional dancer's breast cancer diagnosis. The 32-year-old announced yesterday on Instagram that she had been diagnosed with "grade three" breast cancer last week but was "determined to get back on that dance floor".

While Amy has not confirmed whether she'll be taking part in Strictly Come Dancing's upcoming series, the BBC show told OK! that it would not be hiring another professional dancer for this year. "We will not be recasting for another professional dancer for 2023," a Strictly Come Dancing spokesperson said.

Amy, who has been in the cast of professional dancers on Strictly since 2017, revealed to Hello! magazine that after taking part in a charity trek for breast cancer charity CoppaFeel in June last year, she went on to check her breasts the day before her belated honeymoon and felt a hard lump in her right breast.

After monitoring the lump, she noticed it had grown and rang her GP, being given an emergency referral within a day. After being told by doctors that "it was looking very suspicious and to prepare for the worst, hope for the best", Amy was diagnosed with grade three breast cancer. "Three is the most aggressive, but they feel like they've caught mine early and to not be too alarmed because grade 3 would be expected in somebody of my age," she said, adding that she's waiting to receive a full treatment plan, which will definitely include surgery.
