Steven Gerrard

Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.

He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,

Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.

Liverpool great Steven Gerrard aimed a subtle dig at Manchester United after returning to Anfield for the first time as Aston Villa manager.

Having ended Celtic's dominance in Scotland during a successful stint as Rangers manager, Gerrard touched back down in the Premier League at Villa Park when Dean Smith was sacked earlier this season.

Gerrard started well as Villa boss, with victories over Brighton and Crystal Palace. The 41-year-old also overcame Leicester City either side of more challenging meetings with two Premier League contenders — Manchester City and his former club Liverpool on Saturday afternoon.

Naturally, there was plenty of noise surrounding the game as Gerrard made his grand return to Anfield as Villa were edged out
