St Mirren director reveals 'milestone' summer date for fan takeover and insists SMISA's work is just getting started

St Mirren ’s lengthy history just yet, but it’s about to become one of the most important in the club’s 144-year existence. On that day this summer SMISA, the St Mirren Independent Supporters Association, are set to complete the shares buyout from current chairman Gordon Scott, five years after launching their Buy The Buds campaign.

That will ensure the group will own 51 per cent of the Paisley club, moving the Buddies officially into fan ownership. It’s been a long and sometimes arduous journey, particularly with the coronavirus pandemic hitting Scottish football hard for more than a year.Nevertheless, the club’s impressive season on the pitch has been mimicked off it, with SMISA now set to reach majority ownership in just two months.
