Sign up to the weekly West Lothian Courier newsletter for the latest West Lothian news and sport.St John’s Hospital in Livingston is pioneering a unique new treatment that uses pineapples to help minimise burn wounds.Specialists from The Wallace Burns Unit at the hospital in Livingston are using the drug NexoBrid, which includes an enzyme from the pineapple plant, to help burns patients.The West Lothian medics are the first in Scotland to use the unique new treatment that will help ensure that burn wounds “are minimised.”Patients have the paste and powder directly to the burn and immediate surrounding area to help remove burnt areas and leave healthy tissue behind.Consultant Burn, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Mr Hilal Bahia says this.
