Millions of Scottish people will be celebrating St Andrew's Day today. November 30 marks the day when people across Scotland come together to celebrate the feast day of our patron saint.
The famous saint, whose diagonal cross is the reason Scotland's flag features a white saltire, is not only a much-loved figure here, but also in countries as far-reaching as Barbados, Greece, Russia, Colombia, Romania, and Cyprus where he is also the patron saint.
The first Apostle to be named, he was a Disciple, a brother to St Peter, and a martyr, but how much do we really know about the saint and why we celebrate his life?
St Andrew's Feast Day is celebrated on November 30 (the supposed anniversary of his martyrdom). Andrew is thought to have begun his life as a fisherman in Galilee and may actually have originally been a disciple of St John.
