Ralf Rangnick explains Cristiano Ronaldo sub after Man Utd diva's angry tantrum
Cristiano Ronaldo after the superstar’s angry reaction to being hauled off during Manchester United’s win at Brentford.Ronaldo started up-front for United and played a crucial role in the Mason Greenwood goal that ultimately sealed the three points for Rangnick’s men.The Portuguese attacker chested a lofted ball forward into the path of Bruno Fernandes who sprinted through on goal before playing a squared pass to Greenwood to tap-in.But nine minutes after that goal, which was United’s second of the game, Rangnick opted to replace Ronaldo with centre-back Harry Maguire.Ronaldo was left furious by that decision, slowly walking off the pitch before throwing a coat that had been handed to him by a kit-man to the ground. The 36-year-old continued to show his frustration while sitting on one of the steps in the dugout at the Brentford Community Stadium. He could be seen gesturing and asking why it was him who had been taken off before shaking his head. While he defended Ronaldo’s angry reaction, Rangnick insisted after the win that it had been the right call. Was Ralf Rangnick's decision to substitute Cristiano Ronaldo the right one? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section...He highlighted the fact that Ronaldo had only recently returned from injury, as well as the events of United’s last game in which they threw away a two-goal lead at Aston Villa, for his reasons.“That is normal - a striker wants to score,” Rangnick told BT Sport when asked about Ronaldo’s reaction to being taken off.“But he has come back from a little injury and it was important to remember we have got another game coming up.Want to be on the ball with all of the latest football news?Well then sign up for the brilliant Daily Star football email

Manchester United for being “unbelievably lucky” in their win over the Bees on Wednesday. The Red Devils travelled to London for the rearranged Premier League clash, with Ralf Rangnick’s side claiming a welcome 3-1 win in their battle to finish in the top four. But during another dreadful first-half, the visitors had David de Gea to thank for keeping the scores goalless heading into the break, with the Spaniard pulling off a series of crucial saves.De Gea twice prevented Mathias Jensen from breaking the deadlock in the first period, with United coming out as a different team for the second period.United quickly punished Brentford for missing those chances when Anthony Elanga controlled Fred’s pass before heading in from close range 10 minutes after the interval.Mason Greenwood then provided the tap-in on a wonderful team goal after Bruno Fernandes raced onto Cristiano Ronaldo’s brilliant chest down. And Rangnick’s side made sure of all three points when substitute Marcus Rashford fired in at the near post.Though Ivan Toney pulled a goal back following a scramble, it was too little, too late for Brentford.Who was man of the match in Manchester United's win over Brentford? Let us know in the comments section...With his side having dominated the first-half, Frank was understandably unhappy to have taken nothing from the game. And in his post-match interview, he slammed United for being “unbelievably lucky” while dismissing the excuse of his side missing so many chances.“Unbelievably proud of my team.
