Sombre Neighbours stars carry furniture off set as soap is axed after 37 years

The cast of Neighbours were pictured looking solemn taking furniture off set on Friday as they returned to work for the first time following the news of the show being axed.

It was confirmed this week that the Australian soap is ceasing production after 37 years as key supporting network Channel 5 decided to no longer air the series. “We are so sorry to say that after nearly 37 years and almost 9,000 episodes broadcast we have to confirm that Neighbours will cease production in June,” a statement from Neighbours production read.

You can sign up at the top of the page. “Following the loss of our key broadcast partner in the UK and despite an extensive search for alternative funding, we simply have no option but to rest the show.” Despite petitions made by 60,000 viewers in effort to keep Neighbours on British TV, the show ultimately failed to be able to keep going to the sadness of the cast no doubt, who arrived on set appearing visibly downcast about the news.

Longstanding series member Stefan Dennis, who plays Paul Robinson on the soap, was photographed amongst the actors returned to the Neighbours lot carrying a chair in hand as he walked off set.
