A Glasgow MSP has been lambasted for claiming clinics "push abortion without laying out the pros and cons". Jason Mason's recent support for anti-abortion vigils outside hospitals has sparked fury among pro-choice campaigners.

The SNP member, who represents Glasgow Shettleston, said abortion was "seldom essential or vital" after attending one of the controversial events.

Activists who've gathered at the vigils have been spotted with signs that read 'women do regret abortion' and 'choose life'.

On Saturday, Mason, while engaging on Twitter around the subject, said: "Surely these signs are very gentle and offering help? "I do not see anything hateful or harassing about these signs." When asked if he believed the women seeking an abortion should be asked how they feel, he added: "Yes absolutely.
