Should the BBC licence fee be scrapped?

Last week saw reports emerge that the BBC may be increasing its licence fee, with the broadcaster already under fire over the handling of the Gary Lineker tweet situation.

The increase would be set to come into play in April 2024 as reported by the Telegraph, with the Office of Budget Responsibility forecasting a £13 increase in line with inflation.

The potential increase next year from £159 to £172 would be the biggest licence fee rise in more than 20 years. The broadcaster subsequently removed Lineker from hosting MOTD, before reinstating him for the following week's episode after fellow sports presenters and pundits stepped aside from their reporting duties with the BBC, resulting in a drastically reduced schedule.
