Shopper slammed over 'ridiculous' money-saving supermarket hack

A shopper has been slammed after he boasted about a 'ridiculous' supermarket cash-saving hack. The customer explained on a money-saving Facebook page how he cut the stalks off broccoli with his pen knife while doing his shopping.

The budget shopper is claiming the stalks are a "waste of money", reports Wales Online. Speaking to Manchester Evening News, he said: "Why should I pay for something I don't want or use?" The shopper shared pictures of the reduced size broccoli and his penknife on the page.However, rather than being praised for his actions many readers were quick to condemn.Several pointed out you could eat the stalks and a variety of ways and others told him he was being "ridiculous" or "embarrassing".Writing in the post he told group members: "Gobsmacked at the broccoli in in store today as all of them had stems that were huge and if you're paying by weight then all that stalk you don’t use is a waste of money."So I got the trusty knife out and trimmed them babies down haha ok it’s a tiny tiny saving but it all helps."But rather than being impressed with his deed, hundreds of shoppers responded, with most saying the same thing - 'you should eat the stalks too'."The stalks are really tasty and can be used in stocks or cooked with rest of it," said one. "Ridiculous!

Just grate it and use in salads/soup/stir-fry," said another.A third added: "How embarrassing is this. I'm all for saving a bit but this is downright ridiculous."Others said you wouldn't go around opening packages to chop off what you don't want, so why should you do it with fresh produce.And some went a step further, describing the man's actions as 'illegal'."The stalks are edible!
