Manchester City have confirmed the £11million signing of Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht. The left-back has taken the number 21 shirt - previously donned by David Silva and more recently, Ferran Torres - and will come straight into Pep Guardiola's first-team squad.

There were rumours the 21-year-old was set to go straight back out on loan, but the manager confirmed last Friday that he was needed at the Etihad this season.

After letting Oleksandr Zinchenko move onto Arsenal in late-July, there was an obvious need for a left-back and Marc Cucurella was the club's prime target.

Brighton & Hove Albion's sky-high valuation put City off and the Spaniard ended up moving to Chelsea for a record-breaking £62million.
