Scottish Government confirms TWO deaths and 1,267 new Covid cases in Tayside

The Scottish Government has confirmed TWO new coronavirus death s were reported in Tayside in the last 24 hours. The area's death toll - composed of people who first tested positive for the virus within the previous 28 days - rises to 778.

Data from Public Health Scotland also shows that 1,267 new cases were recorded overnight in the region. In total, Tayside has recorded 69,997 cases of Covid-19 since the pandemic began.

The latest local vaccination data shows that 332,944 people have had at least one coronavirus vaccination, 308,015 have received at least two, while 238,832 have also received a third, or booster, vaccination.Across the country, 14,486 new positive cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in the last day - a total of 1,025,063 since the pandemic began.Sadly a further 15 Covid-confirmed deaths have also been recorded, putting the country's overall death toll from the virus at 9,905.There are currently 1,323 people in Scotland's hospitals being treated for covid with 48 in intensive care.

The figures come as pre-departure covid tests have been scrapped for people heading to or coming back to Scotland from abroad.
